The Krispy Kreme Effect

Last Tuesday, I got an instant message from my friend, Kerry:

I gave him an idea and some directions, and later in the day, Kerry came by with a box of Krispy Kreme Donuts for us. He insisted that he see the expression on our faces as we each took a bite from the crazed donut. (For those of you who are unaware, the first Krispy Kreme in Western Canada opened recently, and it has been madness. I heard reports of insane wait times and line-ups at this brand new Krispy Kreme location.)

My first bite into said donut was a memorable one. The donut is surprisingly heavy, and very sweet. It was nearing the end of the working day when Kerry dropped by, and I was feeling somewhat tired. After I ate the donut, I was immediately revitalized. My spoken words-per-minute increased, and my right leg started to bounce as I sat in front of my computer.

Four of us each had one, so that left eight donuts to go. Whoo boy! We wisely left most for the next morning. I have learned that Krispy Kreme donuts are meant to be eaten warm, so on the side of the box, are some printed instructions (click to see them). (The box is actually quite nicely designed.) The following morning, I had two donuts, warmed up to spec. These donuts are grossly greasy and sweet, and yet, strangely addictive. Further study may be required.

For those who are looking for an energy boost or something extremely sweet, I highly recommend these donuts. For those of you looking a nice, nutritious snack, I suggest you keep looking. However, it looks like there will soon be a low-sugar alternative donut!
